Education and Formation in Faith

“Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers in the fullness of Christian life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #56)

St. Monica-St. Michael School – St. Monica-St. Michael School’s mission is to empower students with spiritual, intellectual and physical growth. We share an active appreciation for learning and a love and respect for God, self, and others. Our school is where faith, friendship and knowledge grow! St. Monica-St. Michael School is open to students of all faiths in preschool (3 years old) through grade 8. Our challenging curriculum integrates Catholic values and teachings. Students attend Mass weekly, and scholarships are offered to families with financial need.

Christian Meditation - Since 1989 an ecumenical group has been meeting for meditation at the Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier on Mondays from 12:00-1:00p.m.

Cursillo/Ultreya - A Cursillo is a three day “short” course in Christianity.  Those who attend listen to talks given by priests and laity, share the Eucharist and pray together.  Ultreya is considered the fourth day in which those who have completed a Cursillo weekend meet once a month to pray together and share their ongoing spiritual journey with one another.

Growing in Faith – This group provides adults the opportunity to share their experiences in a group setting while learning to integrate those experiences with the Catholic understanding.  People who are completing RCIA are especially encouraged to participate.  This activity is coordinated by one of the deacons.

Pre-Cana/Marriage Preparation – Marriage preparation course that is held twice a year and open to any couples who are planning on getting married in the Catholic Church.  The teachers for the two day course are married couples and a priest who guide couples through their experiences and faith to be open and committed to one of the most blessed sacraments of the Church. The course offers support, skills, and celebration of each couple’s wedding day and marriage.

RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a formal program to provide knowledge of the Catholic faith to non-Catholics.  This knowledge allows them to make an informed decision to enter the Catholic Church.  It is open to adults who would like to be confirmed or who want to learn more about the Catholic faith.

Religious Education – This is the parish faith formation program for our parishioners in grades 1-10. This program seeks to give students a deeper understanding and appreciation of Christ's call to discipleship, service and love.  The program is blessed with the leadership and service of volunteer catechists who teach the weekly classes.

Respect Life – Once a year we fundraise for Vermont Right to Life with Baby Booties.  Believing that abortion and euthanasia can only be stopped by prayer (Mark 9:29)  we also gather on the 3rd Saturday of each month for a prayerful, peaceful gathering at Planned Parenthood praying for the protection of all life from conception to natural death.

St. Jerome Library – The Catholic experience has such a diverse and rich history.  The library provides written and audio-visual materials for anyone to borrow.  It is located downstairs before the kitchen and outside the Adoration Chapel.
